Introduction:
Whether you’re a long-time believer or someone who’s just curious about the future promised in Scripture, the Bible outlines a powerful and hope-filled sequence of events that will take place when Jesus returns. This isn’t science fiction or myth — it’s the revealed plan of God, presented here in simple language with supporting verses for every step.
1. Jesus Will Return from Heaven
Jesus will not return in secret. His coming will be unmistakable — loud, visible, and glorious.
One day, Jesus will come back from Heaven. It won’t be a hidden event — everyone around the world will witness it, no matter who they are or where they live.
Scripture:
“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…” – Revelation 1:7
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God…” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16
2. The Final War – The Battle of Armageddon
At His return, Jesus will put an end to the evil rulers and armies who rebel against God.
Nations will gather to fight what they think is just another war, but Jesus will show up and defeat every evil force in an instant.
Scripture:
“They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them…” – Revelation 17:14
“And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered… and the beast was captured…” – Revelation 19:19–20
3. Satan is Bound for 1,000 Years
After the battle, Satan is captured and locked away for 1,000 years.
God will chain up the devil so he can’t deceive or destroy anyone during this period of peace.
Scripture:
“He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years…” – Revelation 20:2
4. Jesus Reigns on Earth for 1,000 Years (The Millennial Kingdom)
Jesus will rule from Jerusalem in a kingdom of peace, justice, and holiness.
Jesus will become the undisputed King of the world. The Earth will finally know peace, and those who followed Him will help serve and govern alongside Him.
Scripture:
“They lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.” – Revelation 20:4
“Out of Zion shall go forth the law… and He shall judge among the nations.” – Isaiah 2:3–4
5. Satan is Released and the Final Judgment Occurs
At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan is released briefly, leads one last rebellion, and is finally defeated forever.
After a thousand years of peace, the devil will try one more time to turn people against God. But God will stop him (instantly) and hold the final judgment for everyone who ever lived.
Scripture:
“When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released… but fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” – Revelation 20:7–9
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it… and the dead were judged according to what they had done…” – Revelation 20:11–15
6. A New Heaven and a New Earth Are Created
God remakes the universe — perfect, eternal, and completely free of pain, sorrow, or death.
God will make everything new. No more sadness, sickness, or funerals. The new Earth will be a place of joy and beauty, forever.
Scripture:
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…” – Revelation 21:1
“There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” – Revelation 21:4
7. The New Jerusalem Comes Down from Heaven
God’s Eternal City — Glorious, Perfect, and Home to His People Forever
Imagine the most beautiful city ever built — only this one was designed by God. It shines like crystal, with golden streets, pearl gates, and foundations made of precious stones. There’s no church building because God Himself lives in it, and there’s no need for the sun because His glory lights up everything.
New Jerusalem Highlights:
Size: About 1,400 miles long, wide, and tall (Revelation 21:16)
Appearance: Radiant like a rare jewel, clear as crystal (Revelation 21:11)
Gates: 12 pearl gates inscribed with the names of the tribes of Israel (Revelation 21:12,
Foundations: Decorated with every kind of precious stone, named after the apostles (Revelation 21:14, 19–20)
Streets: Made of pure, transparent gold (Revelation 21:21)
Light: No need for sun or moon; God’s glory lights it (Revelation 21:23)
Safety: No evil, sin, or corruption will ever enter (Revelation 21:27)
Scripture:
“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God…” – Revelation 21:2
“God’s dwelling place is now among the people…” – Revelation 21:3
“The city does not need the sun or the moon… for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” – Revelation 21:23
Conclusion: A Final Invitation
This isn’t just a sequence of future events — it’s a personal invitation from God Himself. Jesus will return. Justice will be done. Evil will end. And a new world, more glorious than anything we’ve ever imagined, will begin.
For the believer: This is the hope we cling to — the promise of eternal life in the presence of our Savior.
For the non-believer: This is not a fairy tale. It’s an opportunity. A loving God is calling you into a future of peace, forgiveness, and belonging.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water (without cost) from the spring of the water of life.” – Revelation 21:6
“Nothing impure will ever enter it… but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” – Revelation 21:27
