Two Bible verses distinctly highlight God as “Holy, Holy, Holy,” emphasizing His perfect and complete holiness.
This threefold repetition in both passages underscores the absolute purity and unique character of God, setting Him apart from all creation.
1. Isaiah 6:3
In Isaiah’s vision, he sees the Lord seated on a high and exalted throne, and the seraphim (angelic beings) are calling out to each other, saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”
This scene captures God’s transcendence and majesty. The repetition of “holy” three times reinforces His infinite holiness and might, emphasizing that His presence fills the entire earth with glory.
Isaiah’s vision humbled him, leading him to recognize his own unworthiness and highlighting the purity required to stand before God.
2. Revelation 4:8
In John’s vision of heaven, he describes four living creatures around God’s throne, who day and night never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
Here, the continuous proclamation of God’s holiness illustrates His eternal nature. By repeating “holy” three times, these beings express the depth of God’s otherness and moral perfection. Additionally, “who was and is and is to come” reveals His timeless sovereignty and unchanging character.
In both passages, “Holy, Holy, Holy” is a powerful reminder of God’s incomparable nature. This poetic repetition conveys the ultimate degree of holiness, setting God apart as the One who is pure, eternal, and above all creation.
These verses inspire reverence, inviting believers to recognize the majesty of God and respond in humble worship. They remind us that our God is set apart, wholly pure, and forever unchanging.
Let us reflect on His holiness today and approach Him with awe, knowing that His perfect nature invites us to worship with humble hearts.
