They say TV can shape a child’s personality. That might explain why some folks say I:
Dress like Ben Cartwright
Carry the demeanor of Andy Taylor
Lead like Colonel Sherman Potter
Truth is… they didn’t just entertain us. They taught us how to live with honor, compassion, and conviction.
Ben Cartwright
Taught us to honor our family name and carry real responsibility. Not wealth in land or cattle, but in character and legacy. “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” — Proverbs 13:22
Andy Taylor
Taught us that gentleness isn’t weakness — it’s wisdom. “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” — Philippians 4:5
He didn’t lead with fear. He led with patience, peace, and moral clarity. “Blessed are the peacemakers…” Matthew 5:9
Colonel Sherman Potter
Led through war with courage, humility, and grit. “Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” — 2 Timothy 2:3 “Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly…” Micah 6:8
These weren’t just TV characters. They were blueprints for life.
Today’s Media Is Louder… but Is It Better?
The world is fighting for our children’s attention. And as Scripture warns: “Be sober-minded; be watchful… your adversary the devil prowls like a roaring lion…” 1 Peter 5:8
We can’t let the worldliness of Hollywood shape hearts that were made for Heaven.
Ask yourself:
Who’s influencing your child’s character?
What are they watching?
What kind of leadership are they learning to follow?
“Train up a child in the way he should go…” (Proverbs 22:6)
This isn’t about going backward. It’s about standing firm; preserving truth, modeling values, and living them out, as examples for our children.
Let’s raise a generation who doesn’t just binge content… but builds character. Because what they watch today may very well shape who they become tomorrow.
